Dr Simon Fishel

Recognised for his pioneering work in IVF, especially in the fields of microinjection technology for male infertility, Simon has been active in the field for over 30 years, researching at Cambridge with Professor Robert Edwards before the birth of the first IVF baby. Having dedicated his working life to research and the treatment of infertility, he is an acclaimed international scientist. He was previously Reader in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was awarded a Personal Professorial Chair in Human Reproduction at the University of Nottingham. Simon formed CARE in 1997 with the aims of making IVF treatment more widely available and maximising success rates for those seeking treatment.

In addition to being Managing Director of CARE, he is currently an Inspector for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), a Patron of ISSUE, an Advisor to CHILD and President of AceBabes.

Mr Ken Dowell - FRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist

Ken has many years experience in infertility. Ken is also an Honorary Consultant at Queens Medical Centre Fertility Clinic, Nottingham. He is particularly experienced in the diagnosis and management of male factor infertility, surgical sperm recovery and the treatment of patients with spinal cord injury.

Mr Simon Thornton - FRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist

Simon was the first trained sub specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Infertility in the Midlands. He brings vast experience and skill to the CARE Consultant team, with particular interest in ovulatory disorders and expertise in the egg donation programme

Mr George Ndukwe - FRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist

George is a highly experienced infertility specialist. He is particularly interested in recurrent implantation failure and is responsible for the introduction of immunology therapy at CARE to improve implantation and pregnancy rates in women with repeated treatment failure.

Miss Maha Ragunath MRCOG; MSc Consultant Gynaecologist

Miss Maha Ragunath MRCOG; MSc

Maha completed her formal Specialist training in the Mid Trent region. She is accredited in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has undergone special interest training in subfertility and IVF. Maha has specialised in laparoscopic surgery and hysteroscopy, especially in the field of infertility.

Mr Ehab Kelada MRCOG; Consultant Gynaecologist

Ehab has a wide experience in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He finished his specialist training at the North Western Deanery. He developed special skills in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery. He has been working in the field of Infertility and Assisted Reproduction since 1997. He held the position of Clinical Director of the London Fertility Centre for 4 years. He brings vast experience and skill to the CARE Consultant team, with particular interest in ovulation induction for poor responders and women with polycystic ovaries; as well as expertise in the egg donation and surrogacy programmes.

Judith Smith - Unit Manager

Judith Smith has worked in the field of infertility since 1989, initially under John Webster’s direction. She was appointed Nurse Manager of the IVF Unit at The Park Hospital in 1993 and continued in this position when CARE Fertility evolved in 1997. Over the years both her knowledge of IVF and the CARE team have increased. Judith was appointed Unit Manager for CARE Nottingham at their new purpose built premises in 2007, where she leads a multi-disciplinary team of over 70 staff, and is also their Registered Manager for the Healthcare Commission

Dr Lucy Jenner - Laboratory Manager

Lucy has extensive experience in all aspects of clinical embryology. After completing a degree in Physiology and a PhD in Reproductive Endocrinology, she spent 3 years working at an AFRC Research Institute running a bovine IVF program. In 1993 she joined the embryology team at St James' University Hospital, Leeds, where she set up their ICSI program in 1994, and became the Lead Embryologist there in 2001. She helped set up a Masters course in Clinical Embryology at Leeds University and maintains contact with the running of this course and an interest in the teaching and training of embryologists. Lucy joined CARE in 2003, becoming Nottingham Lab Manager in 2004.
